About the film
This is a love story about a woman with a broken heart, the dog who saved her life every day for nine years, and what it means to let go.
Marty had a heart condition that used to make her faint every day. Adele was the world’s first cardiac alert service dog and she stopped Marty from fainting at all. They were the perfect team. They were soulmates. Adele could literally sense the beating of Marty’s heart.
But nothing can last forever, and when Adele gets too old to continue working, Marty must figure out how to let go of her best friend and find a new partner who can take over the job of protecting her heart.
With Adele by her side, Marty went from being unable to walk around the block without passing out, to leading an adventurous, joy-filled life as a wife and mother. She doesn’t want to go back to how it was before Adele, but going forward is just as scary.

Letting Go of Adele is almost complete and we’re submitting for film festivals in the late fall, winter and spring.
To give the film the best chance possible at festivals, we’re seeking a small amount of finishing funds to pay for a professional color grade, sound mix and DCP, as well as to cover film festival submission fees (typically $30 – $80 per festival).
To help contribute to this effort, click the button below to make a donation. Please note we are not a 501(c)(3) and the contribution is not tax deductible.
Adele was raised and trained by Canine Partners for Life, a service dog organization in Cochranville, PA. They estimate it costs them around $30,000 for each dog they place, and they rely on donations to sustain their operations. Please visit their website and give generously.
Letting Go of Adele is representative of Long Haul Films’ commitment to making films by and about women.
